Alma married Nils Paulson in Sweden. Nils came over to the US in 1910 and

sent for his wife and family. Alma was en route to Chicago on the Titanic

where her husband Nils and her two brothers, Axel and Olav Berglund,

lived.

The Board of Trade records at London's Public Record Office gave her name as

Alma C. Paulsson, age as 29, and residence as Helsingborg, Sweden. Her

daughters were listed as Torborg, 8; Stina, 3; and Gosta, 2. Her son wasPaul, aged five.

According to the National Archives, a claim was filed by Mrs. Paulson's mother,

Maria Berglund, for the loss of Mrs. Paulson and her children. It lists her

name as Alma Cornelia Paulsson. Mrs. Berglund, a widow, did receive 50

pounds

from the British Relief Fund.

The bodies of Mrs. Paulson and her two year old, (Gosta) were both

recovered and

are buried in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The HALIFAX MORNING CHRONICLE, of May

9,

1912, page 7, describes Mrs. Paulson's body being identified from a

photograph

received there. The marker gives the name and ages as follows: Alma

Paulson,

aged 29, wife of Nils; Torburg Damira, age 8; Paul Folke, age 6; Stina

Viola,

aged 4; and Gosta Leonard, aged 2.

Alma and her children never got into a lifeboat but floated dead in their

lifejackets. Many ships which arrived the next morning found hundreds of

corpses floating. Alma was found fully clothed but without stockings.

Gosta

was found by a crew of the "Mackay Bennett, not identified. They paid the

cost

of his burial. Gosta was later identified and buried near his mother. The

other children were never found. Nils Paulson spent a great deal of time

and

money attempting to find the fate of the other children to no avail.

Going to husband, Nils Paulsson, 159 West Erie Street, Chicago, Ill (source www.titanicinquiry.org)
