Oldest of family, has clear recollection of moving to Meadows and seeing
nothing but a big swamp - no roads, just a railway. He worked at home on the
farm and at various other interesting jobs during the winters - hauling fill
for the basement of the Fort Garry Hotel; helping to dig the reservoir on Logan
and McPhillips; and at Arctic Ice for 3 winters. In 1914, Victor and his friend
Andy Hanson, went to Pine River in northern Manitoba where they tended a trap
line for the winter. The next 2 winters he spent at Berens River and near
Hodgson, trapping and hunting. In 1918 he was concripted into the Canadian
Army, Fort Garry Horse Division. After a short period of training he was sent
to England to await draft for France. The Armistice was signed. He stayed in
Meadows til 1922 when went to Bresaylor, SK to manage a farm for W. Herriot.
Married Bessie & returned to Meadows in 1924 & built own home on farm. Victor
has always been interested in making Meadows a better community & has held many
municipal executive positions. Had large rock collection & did cutting/
